Since 2015, Plan International Hong Kong has jointly organised a Youth Conference with the Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong, an annual occasion for local young people to meet, reflect and exchange ideas on international issues, particularly girls’ situations in low income countries.
To align with Plan International’s new global campaign on combating gender inequality, ‘Girls Get Equal’ was adopted as the theme of this year’s conference with the aim of inspiring participants to advocate for girls rights. Following the success of last year’s poster design competition, the ‘Youth Power – Best Campaign Award’ was introduced as a new component to further engage students’ creative capabilities in launching their own social media campaigns to raise awareness of girls issues within their local community.
To help students prepare for their presentation for the Youth Conference, two training workshops were held on 3 August, 17 August and 21 September 2019 respectively at City University of Hong Kong. Professionals were invited to speak at the workshops to enhance students’ knowledge of global citizenship and girls issues in developing countries, as well as providing training on research, presentation, and social media engagement skills.
Mr. Ralph Szeto, Board Member of Plan International Hong Kong, shared his expertise in utilizing digital media tools to campaign for social causes.
Presentation teams and Youth Conference facilitator from KPMG, Ms. Alyssa IP, engaged in a preparation session on their research topics.
