Thank You for Being With Us! 15th Anniversary X Annual Donor Gathering 2024

The 15th Anniversary X Annual Donor Gathering 2024 of Plan International Hong Kong was successfully held in late November. We were grateful to have over 140 donors, along with their families and friends, volunteers, and ex-beneficiaries attend and share a joyful and unforgettable afternoon!

Ms. June Leung (right), Board Chair, and Dr. Kanie Siu, Chief Executive Officer, expressed their gratitude to donors for their ongoing trust and support.

During the sharing sessions shared by Ms. June Leung, Dr. Kanie Siu, and Ambassador Mandy Wong respectively, participants gained valuable insights into Plan International’s historical journey in Hong Kong. They also learned about our recent impacts in Nepal, Cambodia, and globally to break the cycle of poverty and promote girls’ rights, as well as our local initiatives in children’s rights such as child safeguarding and child participation.

Dr. Kanie Siu reflected on the developments and achievements of Plan International since its “return” to Hong Kong 15 years ago.

Volunteer Ambassador Mandy Wong shared heartfelt insights from her recent visit to Nepal with Plan International.

Plan International strives for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls in Hong Kong and globally. All the accomplishments have only been made possible over the years thanks to the unwavering support of our generous donors who selflessly contribute their resources, time, and expertise. We were delighted to gather on this occasion. Ms. Leung and Dr. Siu, on behalf of Plan International Hong Kong, presented certificates of appreciation to our local partners, ex-beneficiaries, loyal donors, volunteers, and those who enthusiastically write letters to cheer on their sponsored children.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers for their tremendous support over the past year!

Participants gained a deeper understanding of Plan International’s key initiatives in Hong Kong and around the world in recent years, participants also joined four interactive experiences sessions:

Child Marriage Bingo! — Together through a simple game “Who is the bride?”, participants learned and circled the factors leading to child marriage that girls in developing countries are facing. Participants also learned about Plan International’s work to prevent and fight against child marriage around the globe.

Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Emergency Relief — Through taking up a mini humanitarian challenge, participants learned about the essential items in a humanitarian rescue such as food, and hygiene items, and understood the potential obstacles during delivery, such as damaged roads and checkpoints set up by the military.

FGM Mini Theatre (for age 15+ only) — FGM, or Female Genital Mutilation, is a cruel practice. Through survivor testimonials and role-playing, participants explored the devastating impact of this practice on women and girls and learned more about Plan International’s efforts to combat FGM.

Children’s Corner — Through drawing and building their ideal homes with blocks, children were encouraged to actively participate in community development and express their opinions on matters that affect them. Ensuring children’s right to participate is one of our key initiatives in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the Kids Volunteer aged 4 to 8 enjoyed a joyful story about a boy named Siu-ming (named by the participating children!) and his beloved pastel-coloured pen. After that, to nurture a sense of global citizenship, we organised a creative session where children decorated pencil cases to send blessings to children in Bangladesh.

Once again, we thank everyone for continuing to join hands with Plan International in creating a better and fairer world for children and girls in Hong Kong and developing countries. Last but not least, we hope you enjoy the three-minute highlights video that showcases some of the most memorable moments from this 15th Anniversary’s Annual Gathering, Cheers!
