Plan International Hong Kong has organised Youth Conference since 2015 with the Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong for local young people to learn about international issues, especially girls’ situations in low income countries, through desktop research, discussion, public speaking, and poster design. With the theme of “Fight of Girls’ Justice”, each team, representing one developing country, presented on different girls’ issues and made suggestions for improvement.
To help students prepare for their presentation for the Youth Conference, training workshops were held on 11th and 18th August at City University of Hong Kong. Dr. K. K. YUEN, Executive Manager. UNESCO Hong Kong Association, Mr. Sean LIN, Founding speaker, Hong Kong Speakers Bureau, Dr. Linda Y. N. TJIA, Assistant Professor, Department of Asian and International Studies, City University of Hong Kong and Dr. Kanie SIU, Chief Executive Officer, Plan International Hong Kong were invited to speak at the workshops to enhance students’ knowledge of global citizenship, presentation skills, research techniques and girls’ issues.
Dr. K. K. YUEN, Executive Manager. UNESCO Hong Kong Association introduced the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
Dr. Linda Y. N. TJIA, Assistant Professor, Department of Asian and International Studies, City University of Hong Kong shared her tips on research techniques.
Students actively listened to the Mr. Sean LIN, Founding speaker, Hong Kong Speakers Bureau, who taught students how to improve their presentation skills.
Dr. Kanie SIU, Chief Executive Officer, Plan International Hong Kong urges students to learn about the problems and challenges faced by girls in developing countries.
Plan International Hong Kong – City University of Hong Kong Youth Conference 2018 was successfully held at the City University of Hong Kong on 29 September 2018. A total of 62 students, from different secondary schools and the Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong participated in the Conference. Mr. Szeto, Board Member, Plan International Hong Kong, Dr. Federico Ferrara, Associate Head, Department of Asian and International Studies, City University of Hong Kong and Ms. Nurul Qoiriah, Head of Sub-office, International Organisation for Migration Hong Kong were invited to attend the opening ceremony and gave speeches.
Mr. Szeto, Board Member, Plan International Hong Kong welcomed students to join the event.
Dr. Federico Ferrara, Associate Head, Department of Asian and International Studies, City University of Hong Kong attended the event and gave a speech.
Ms. Nurul Qoiriah, the Keynote Speaker shed light on the issue of trafficking of women and girls in Asia.
