Free Legacy Planning Seminar Successfully Held – Joining Hands to Extend Hope and Love

In recent years, society has placed increasing emphasis on life planning. Beyond safeguarding loved ones through proper estate arrangements, many people also aspire to give deeper meaning to their lives. On 15 November, 2025, Plan International Hong Kong hosted its first Free Legacy Planning Seminar, attracting nearly 60 donors and members of the public to learn more about the importance of legacy planning and charitable giving.

Proper Life Planning – Prevent Disputes, Extend Beliefs

Dr. Kanie Siu, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International Hong Kong, shared the organisation’s mission and achievements during the seminar. Through stories of ex-beneficiaries and former sponsored child, she expressed gratitude for donors’ generous contributions, which have profoundly changed the lives of children. She remarked, “Thanks to the continuous support of our donors, we have been able to implement various projects that improve the lives of children and families in developing countries. Girls are protected from gender inequality and given opportunities to rewrite their futures. We hope that when the public considers legacy planning, they will also think about giving as an option, so that love can be carried forward.”

Plan International Hong Kong has partnered with ForeverGift.hk, an organisation dedicated to promoting legacy giving. The seminar featured Ms. Ryanne Lai, solicitor and co-founder of ForeverGift.hk, who illustrated the importance of wills and enduring powers of attorney through multiple case studies. She also explained how donating through a will can both safeguard loved ones and extend care to society.

Ms. Lai remarked,“In recent years, more and more people have recognised the importance of proper life planning. They hope not only to ease matters for their descendants but also to continue supporting the values and beliefs they cherish. Through our services, we aim to help more citizens plan their estate distribution and charitable giving with peace of mind, enabling those who wish to give back to society to put their goodwill into action.” Currently, anyone who makes a living donation and pledges a legacy gift totalling at least HK$10,000 to partner organisations, including Plan International Hong Kong will be offered free will-drafting services by ForeverGift.hk. This ensures that donors’ wishes are honoured while also contributing to charitable causes.

Kanie highlighted that Nobel had established his will and the Nobel Prizes with the intention of continuously supporting individuals who drive social progress across different fields. She hoped this example would encourage the public to consider legacy giving as a way to extend their own values and beliefs. Ms. Ryanne Lai highlighted the importance of drafting a will through various case studies, helping participants understand how early planning can reduce regrets and create a lasting impact on society.

Donors Spreading Kindness – Giving Girls Fair Treatment

Legacy Givers Larina and Ivan shared their personal journeys of deciding to donate part of their estates to Plan International Hong Kong. By recounting their experiences, they hope to inspire more people to join the legacy giving movement and ensure that love passes on.

Larina chose to donate through her insurance policy, designating part of her estate to Plan International. She admitted that the passing of her close friend and father motivated her to leave kindness behind and spread love even after her lifetime. She said: “As a woman, I feel very fortunate to have grown up in Hong Kong and to achieve my dreams through hard work. Yet I am acutely aware that in many parts of the world, girls are deprived of even the most basic human rights. They cannot freely work, lack access to education, and even menstruation is treated as shameful. That is why I want to support Plan International—to help girls in need live with dignity and choice.”

Ivan, on the other hand, first realised the importance of estate planning through a ForeverGift.hk seminar. He shared: “It is often said that only the money you can use truly belongs to you. I want my wealth to be directed to where I wish, both during my lifetime and afterwards. I believe that planning early not only reduces regrets but also eases the burden on loved ones. When I learned that so many girls around the world still suffer exploitation and discrimination in life and education—such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, and sexual violence—I was deeply saddened. Knowing that Plan International focuses on gender equality and advocates for girls’ rights, I felt compelled to support their work and have named Plan International as one of my estate beneficiaries.

Larina shared her reasons for setting up a legacy gift, hoping to encourage more people to plan their wealth thoughtfully, extend their love, and benefit more children and girls in need. Ivan strongly shared the value of Plan International’s mission and is committed to supporting its work in continuously promoting gender equality, so that more girls can receive fair treatment and opportunities to thrive.
